Best Tents for Camping in 2022

Tents

We know the feeling of getting excited about a year-long planned camping trip with our family and friends. You talk about the places you’ll go to, the items you’ll bring, the experiences you’ll encounter, and so much more. But what if all your excitement turns into disappointment because you have an inefficient, heavy, or delicate tent?

We’ve tested many of the well-known tents today to bring you only the best camping tents in this article. We’ve gone through different trails and weather while carrying our backpacks and gears, and immersed ourselves into nature to bring you the best products for your next trip.

We’ve evaluated the overall comfort, weight, weather resistance, ease of setting up and packing away, and durability of these tents. By the end of this article, you’ll know the best options you have when you’re shopping for camping tents.

A word of advice though. If you’re planning to go on a trip with your family or friends, we recommend you first check the capacity suggested by the manufacturer. If your plan is to go on a trip with only one other person, choose a tent that offers a maximum capacity of 3. This will ensure that you have enough space for your pads, backpacks, gears, and more.

Best overall camping tent

1. Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2

Floor Area: 29ft

Peak Height: 42in

Material: Proprietary Ultralight Double Rip-Stop Mixed Denier Nylon with 1200mm Waterproof Polyutherane Coating

Capacity: 2

We chose the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 as the best camping tent because of its perfect balance of space, comfort, and lightweight. For a couple of more bucks, you’ll be sure to have an all-around, high-performing, two-door camping tent that you will love.

What We Like

The Big Agnes Copper has excelled in providing both space and comfort. Being 52” wide at the head and 88” long, you’ll have enough space in this tent to maneuver around and lay down your sleeping pads. What we like so much about this tent is that it’s lightweight and has almost all the features you’ll need for a couple of nights out in the wilderness.

The peak height is 42” and the tent is 29 square feet, providing you with enough space to sit up and go from one end to the other. You’ll also find two 9-square-foot vestibules that can cover most of your dirty gears and protect them from the weather.

Additionally, you’ll find two large overhead pockets, one on the foot end, and the other on the overhead that’s big enough to store almost anything that you’ll bring on your trip. That’s not all, the tent also has two supportive side pockets that can carry any of your nighttime essentials.

We’re delighted with how many pockets we found inside the tent, which is already a lot considering that it’s lightweight. Finally, you won’t feel comfortable if people outside your tent can see you, which is why we’re happy to say that the privacy panels of this tent are high enough to cover you from head to toe.

In terms of weather protection and resistance, we noticed that this tent has a nice geometry, which keeps it steady even in high winds. We tried to fully extend the vestibules and were impressed by how adaptable they are, even when we were experiencing mild winds.

The fly doors of the Copper Spur HV can easily be propped open by using the guyline and your trekking poles. We find this feature very useful since we encountered some light rain during our hike. This also provides great ventilation, along with the flap over on the fly zipper that helps against condensation.

The total weight of this tent is 3 lbs. and 2 ounces, which is pretty light considering its space and available storage. All the materials can be easily packed together, giving you 19.5” x 6” bagged dimensions. We were able to divide the materials amongst ourselves, but you can easily carry them around in a single backpack.

This tent is easy to set-up since it’s free-standing and doesn’t feature unnecessary stakeouts. With just a cross pole that’s responsible for the headroom and an interconnected pole for the overall structure, it has a teardrop-shape that helps hold the tent fast. We didn’t experience any problem pitching it solo, even when we tried to fully extend the fly doors.

Durability-wise, the tent has a sturdy construction and is well-designed. Although it’s made with denier nylon and polyester mesh, we still recommend not to abuse it since it’s quite fragile. We also don’t recommend letting kids use it during their night outs. Besides, having your furry friends around can damage the nylon floor.

What We Don’t Like

Aside from the fragile nylon materials used, we find the Copper Spur HV quite expensive. You’ll find almost the same features on some other brands that are less expensive, although heavier.

Overall, if you’re looking for a spacious camping tent that features multiple storages, can protect you from three seasons, and is ultra-lightweight, then the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 is the best choice for you.

Best waterproof tent for camping

2. Coleman 6-Person Sundome Dome Camping Tent

Coleman 6-Person Sundome Dome Camping Tent

Floor Area: 100 square feet

Peak Height: 6”

Material: 680D Polyester Mesh for the inner tent and 1000D Polyester for the floor

Capacity: 2, 3, 4, 6

If you’re looking for a tent that has excellent value for money, features no unnecessary frills, is waterproof, and can give you a long night’s sleep, then the Coleman Sundome Dome Camping Tent can be the best one for you. With its darkroom technology, you won’t notice the sun rising, or even the heat, which is why we chose this as one of the best waterproof tents on the market today.

What we like about the Coleman Sundome 6-person is the 100-square-foot space and 6-foot headroom. It’s spacious enough for weekend trips with a couple of friends or a small family. Although, we don’t recommend squeezing six adults inside the tent because you’ll all be cramped up.

We realized that the suggested capacity of the Sundome is beyond what this tent can handle. However, at its current price, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t buy this tent. We recommend you buy the bigger version of this tent and not follow the capacity suggestion (if there are 4 of you, go with the 6-person tent).

As Coleman claims, this tent supposedly blocks out 90% of the external light. We’re not sure how they measured this, but we can guarantee you that it does block out the light and heat better than the other tents available on the market. Indeed, during our tests, we didn’t notice the time of the day when we were inside the tent. We were surprised to know that it was already close to 10 a.m. when we woke up. When all the windows and doors are closed and the flyover is up, you won’t notice the heat and light of the sun because of the tent’s darkroom technology. We even needed to turn on our flashlights to get around the room.

Aside from the darkroom technology, there’s nothing that stands out with this tent. It effectively blocks out light to moderate rain showers and can stand heavy winds. If you happen to come across heavy rain, the thick bathtub-style floor keeps the water out of your tent. We were pleased to know that it still felt cool inside the tent even when it was raining outside.

Besides, you’ll only find four small pockets inside the tent—one on each side. There are no vestibules or overhead nets so you’ll have to consider the space that all your backpacks and gears are going to occupy. Plus, it’s quite easy to set up the tent and pack it up. A solo hiker set up this tent in as fast as 6 minutes, even without looking at the instruction manual.

Overall, the only thing that we didn’t like about the Coleman Sundome Dome camping tent is its suggested capacity. This 6-person tent is too cramped up to fit six adults, even parents with four kids. Aside from that, it’s great-value equipment that is sturdy enough to handle strong winds and rain, perfect for minimalist hikers, and a great waterproof tent.

3. MSR Mutha Hubba NX Waterproof Tent

MSR Mutha Hubba NX Waterproof Tent

Floor Area: 39square feet

Peak Height: 44in

Material: 30D Ripstop Nylon 3000mm Durashield Polyurethane & DWR for the floor

Capacity: 3

If you’re looking for a tent that can easily be set up and packed, has enough space to accommodate three people, and has interior pockets, then the MSR Mutha Hubba NX could be the best waterproof tent for you.

What we like about the Mutha Hubba NX is that it has enough space to accommodate three people, as well as pockets and vestibules to store all your gears. With a two-door feature, you don’t need to go over your hike mate just to get in or out of the tent.

With the 39-square-foot floor area and 3” peak height, you can easily change clothes, sit up, play some card games, or crawl inside this tent without bumping into each other. Although, if like us, you like to have your own space, then we suggest using this tent during a trip with your partner.

We were happy to see two vestibules in each door, where we can put our bags without worrying about the heat of the sun or some light rain showers. There also are two mesh pockets in each door, and four mesh pockets on each corner, where you can put your night essentials.

A single person can set up the tent because it only has one pole and small grommets, which makes it easy to assemble. This is also true when you’re setting up the flyover or packing it all up inside your stash bag. But if you’re expecting strong winds, then a helping hand wouldn’t hurt.

What we don’t like about the Mutha Hubba NX is the lack of footprints and possible condensation. First, if you want a footprint, you’ll have to pay an additional $40 and it won’t be a custom fit for this tent. Second, if it rains while you are camping, you can expect slight condensation when the flyover is up.

4. TETON Sports Mountain Ultra 2-Person Camping Tent

TETON Sports Mountain Ultra 2-Person Camping Tent

Floor Area: 30square feet

Peak Height: 4”

Material: 150D Polyester Oxford for the inner floor and 66D 3MM Ripstop for the rainfly

Capacity: 2, 4, 6

The TETON Sports Mountain Ultra camping tent is one of the best waterproof tents on the market today and has great value products. Known for its superb waterproofing, ease to set up, and affordability, you surely won’t get wrong if you choose to buy this tent.

What we like about the TETON Sports Mountain Ultra is that it is mostly made of micro-mesh, making it well-ventilated and perfect for stargazing. Plus, inside the tent, you can easily fit two camping pads and store your backpacks and gear on the organizational pockets on the side.

This tent uses an “X-cross” structure with its aluminum poles. It already has a tent-specific footprint that you can easily attach to your tent. However, it doesn’t have a buckle specifically made for it, so you need to have some hand and eye coordination in order to effortlessly attach it to the available eyelets.

Other than the separate footprint, a solo hiker can easily set up this tent without breaking a sweat. Packing it back up is as easy as setting it up. Besides, we didn’t mind sitting up inside the tent because it has enough headroom and is somewhat spacious for two people.

During our testing period of the TETON Sports Mountain Ultra, we experienced some really cold nights in the national park. Even in this weather, we were comfortable enough to play some card games thanks to the rainfly. During the warm nights where we didn’t attach the rainfly, we got a 360-degree view of the night sky because of the full-mesh construction.

A solo hiker may find it a little heavy considering that the tent is 5 lbs., but if you’re traveling with a partner, you can easily distribute the gears among yourselves to make your pack lighter while you’re on the go.

The only thing that we didn’t like with the TETON Sports Mountain Ultra is the possibility of the footprint slipping off while you’re trying to set it up. Plus, it’s not the lightest option on the market. If you’re a hiker who’s looking for a budget-friendly camping tent that can fit two people comfortably and provides an outstanding waterproofing rainfly, then this could be the perfect tent for you.

Best 12 person tent

5. Ozark Trail 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Porch

Ozark Trail 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Porch

Floor Area: 12.3ft x 18.5ft

Peak Height: 90in

Material: 600mm Polyester on tent and rainfly

Capacity: 12

If you’re looking for a camping tent that can fit 12 people comfortably, then you should take a look at the Ozark Trail 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Porch. With its available space, provision for dividers, a screened porch, and mesh roof, your entire family or group of friends can enjoy your stay outdoors without worrying about any bugs at night.

What we like about the Ozark Trail 12 Person tent is that it has all the necessary features to let you enjoy your trip. Among them a sewn-in room divider that enables you to make two rooms if you’re ready to crash at night and roll it back up to create a large living room area. The tent is also large enough to fit four queen air mattresses or fit 12 sleeping bags.

In addition, it has two D-style doors at the front and back of the tent so it’s easy to go in and out without disturbing everyone. With its 6-mesh windows and ceiling, ventilation and condensation are not a problem inside this tent. Additionally, it has an E-port as your charging station, and a movable holder in case you want to work from a tablet.

The 168-square-foot floor space and the 90-inch peak height are wide enough for your entire family to play around and walk inside the tent. We also like the screen porch addition by Ozark Trail, because kids can play within the area without risking having flying bugs around them.

It takes two persons about 20 minutes to completely set up the tent, which is not a surprise since there are a lot of materials to put together. However, you might find it fun and engaging when you let other hikers help you with this activity or even when trying to pack it back up again.

The total carry weight is 37.58 lbs., which is the typical weight for a tent this size. You can easily pack it up and put it at the back of your car. While testing this tent, we encountered some moderate breeze and light rain. We noticed that the tent might need more poles for better stabilization.

What we don’t like about the Ozark Trail 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Porch is that it’s not entirely waterproof, but rather water-resistant. Also, the screen porch doesn’t have any flooring so if you intend to use this during the wet season, we recommend you bring a tarp that can cover the entire flooring and spray the tent with waterproofing just to make sure.

6. Core 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Core 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Floor Area: 18ft x 10ft

Peak Height: 80in

Material: 68D with 600mm Polyester on the tent and rainfly and 115g/m Polyester on the floor

Capacity: 12

One of the best-known group tent on the market today is the Core 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent. With its instant set-up feature, affordability, and enormous size, you won’t experience any problem with this best 12-person tent.

What we like about the Core 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent is that you won’t feel claustrophobic when you’re inside the tent. With its 18ft x 10ft spacious floor area and 80-inch peak height, you can easily install camping cots for your family or friends.

There are two dividers that you can pull-up if you want to divide the living area into three different rooms. You’ll find two doors in the center section of the tent. In front, there’s a double door with an inverted T-shaped zipper and, on the other side, a D-shaped with a parallel window. Aside from this, there are seven separate windows to create great ventilation.

Since the tent is quite tall and made up of a lot of mesh, you can expect it to shake a little when there are strong winds. Although it’s advertised as a 3-season tent, we only recommend using this in the summer since the fly is minimal.

We are especially happy with the instant set-up feature of the Core 12-Person Tent. It’s completely freestanding and the frame is pre-assembled so you don’t have to worry about exerting too much effort in this matter. You only have to extend the telescopic poles and spread the tent itself, then you’re done.

Besides, taking it down is as easy as setting it up. You just have to push the button that locks the telescopic poles and the tent will automatically collapse. The only thing that you need to do is fold the tent and pack everything up.

Durability-wise, the poles are made from steel so there’s no need to worry about breaking them. Additionally, Core provides a 1-year warranty in which case you can return the product if you ever found any defects.

What we don’t like about the Core 12-Person Instant Cabin Tent is its bulkiness. Its overall weight is 52.55 lbs., which is too heavy for a group of people to carry around for hiking. Thus, the best way to have this tent on your trip is to come in a car. Plus, we noticed some small details on this tent. Indeed, you won’t find any vestibules and there are not enough pockets to store your gears.

Best 8-person tent

7. Coleman Montana 8-Person Camping Tent

Coleman Montana 8-Person Camping Tent

Floor Area: 14ft x 10ft

Peak Height: 6ft 7in

Material: Polyguard Polyester

Capacity: 8

Everyone has their priorities when it comes to camping equipment. If you’re one of those hikers who are more concerned about their budget but require to fit eight people in a tent, then the Coleman Montana 8-Person Camping Tent can be the best choice for you.

What we like about the Montana 8-person tent is that it has a massive interior space. With its 14x10ft floor area and 6ft 7in peak height in the middle, you can easily walk around the area without bumping into anyone (that is if there are no camping cots inside the tent).

You can also fit two queen airbeds and still have enough space to put your backpacks and night gears around. Additionally, you won’t feel claustrophobic since there are two mesh windows at the sides of the tent, a mesh roof, and a small mesh window on the door.

The Montana camping tent is marketed as a 3-season tent, but you have to remember that the rain fly is sold separately, so we recommend only using it in the summer. Although, to keep you from keeping wet, the floor is designed in a bathtub-style and there are inverted seams.

The overall weight is 24.5 lbs., which makes it heavy for a backpacking trip. The best way to bring this 8-person tent to your destination is with car access. With its portable carry bag, you can easily put it at the back of your trunk and go on your trip.

Setting it up is rather difficult to do alone. The good thing though is that you’re going with your family or friends. Thus, you can ask for a few helping hands. The telescopic poles are pre-attached and all you have to do is unfold the tent and extend it. The same goes when you pack up the tent and put it back into its carry bag.

In terms of durability, while we were camping in the woods, we experienced some moderate winds. We didn’t notice any issue in the stability and the poles, which is why we are confident enough to choose this as one of the best 8-person tents on the market today.

What we don’t like about the Coleman Montana 8-Person Camping Tent is the poles. Indeed, Coleman is known for its fiberglass poles which are not flexible at all. With just a couple of wrong bending, you’ll find yourself lacking a pole to make your tent stand. Thus, we recommend replacing the poles with the ones you’re confident to use and that are compatible with the tent.

8. Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Floor Area: 98ft

Peak Height: 78”

Material: Welded Polyethylene for the floor and Polyester Taffeta for the rainfly

Capacity: 8

The Wenzel 8-Person Klondike Tent is one of the favorite camping tents for families and groups. With its spacious floor area, good ventilation, two separate rooms, and affordability, you can never go wrong with this summer tent.

What we like about the Wenzel 8-Person Klondike Tent is that it has two separate rooms which can hold multiple people. In the main room, where you’ll see an open 98-square-foot floor area, you can either fit four people in a sleeping bag or a queen-sized bed, depending on how many of you are going on this trip.

Plus, the 78-inch peak height on the main room also allows you to put in bunk beds or cots that will maximize the space and keep your things organized. The separate screen room, in front of the main room, has a 60-square-foot floor area where two people can fit in a sleeping bag. You can also use this room as a storage area for your backpacks and gears.

Additionally, ventilation is certainly not a problem with the Klondike 8. You’ll find two mesh windows on each side of the main room with zippers, the entire ceiling is made up of mesh, and there’s a small ventilation opening on the backside of the main room. The entire porch room is made up of mesh with zippers so there’s complete airflow, even if everything is closed.

The Klondike 8 is tall and wide so you can expect it to have loose fabric. With this in mind, we don’t recommend using this tent when you’re expecting strong winds or heavy rains. Even if it has water-resistant fabric and zippers to keep the water from getting in, you might find it difficult to sleep tightly at night when your tent is waving around.

The total weight of this 8-person tent is 27.3 lbs., so we still recommend having a car to carry the weight for you. There are also six metal poles and three fiberglass poles, which explains why this tent is heavy. Another thing to note is that this is not a freestanding tent so you need to stake the poles to the ground if you want it to be steady and sturdy.

Considering that we were hiking in groups, it took us four people to set up this tent in less than 15 minutes. Note that you might have a hard time staking the poles to the ground since you can’t really do it on sand or wet areas. That is also why we recommend taking this tent in the summer, when the ground is dry.

Durability-wise, with proper care and storage, we believe that this camping tent can offer you a few good years of camping trips. The fabric is strong enough to support some wear and tear, and the poles are sturdy enough to handle a couple of beats.

What we didn’t like about the Wenzel 8-Person Klondike Tent is that there’s only one door to get in and out of the tent. Plus, there’s a little bit too much fabric, and it’s not freestanding, which can come in handy in the wilderness.

Best 5 person tent

9. Eureka! Tetragon HD 5 Person Tent

Eureka! Tetragon HD 5 Person Tent

Floor Area: 9ft x 9ft

Peak Height: 6ft

Material: 63D/190T Double-Coated StormShield Polyester

Capacity: 5

If you’re a hiker who’s more focused on bringing lightweight gears with you and your family, then the Eureka! Tetragon HD 5 Person tent could be your best option. It has a freestanding and bathtub design that makes it easy to set up, as well as a double-coated polyester on the rainfly for supreme protection. Plus, it’s super affordable.

What we like about the Tetragon HD 5 is that it can easily hold at least three adults with enough remaining space for all the gears. The 9ft x 9ft floor area and 6-foot peak height provide enough room to make you comfortable.

Besides, there are two vents located on the side of the tent, and the no-see-um mesh side panels and roof provide great air ventilation, even if you put the rainfly. Although, there’s only one large door with a zipper to get in and out of the tent. Additionally, there’s an E! Media Center in-tent entertainment hub, a gear loft, and two storage pockets for your gears since there are no vestibules.

The Tetragon HD 5 is well-known for its 3-season protection. The waterproof rainfly can fully cover the entire tent with the extra tie-down points. The construction is fully seam-taped, but we’ve read some online reviews complaining about minimal leakage. Additionally, it has a bathtub floor design, but it seems too thin, which is why we recommend putting an additional cloth on the ground.

The total weight is 12 lbs. and 6 ounces, which you can distribute with your co-hikers for a lightweight journey. Setting this tent up is fairly easy. All you have to do is spread it out and insert the poles to connect the rings on the corner. Plus, it has a freestanding design so you won’t need to exert too much effort in making it stand.

Durability-wise though, we happened to break one of the poles while setting it up. This is typical on fiberglass frames because it’s not as flexible as other materials. Thankfully, we had brought an extra pole with us so we were able to pursue our tests.

Aside from the easy-to-break poles and thin floor material, the Eureka! Tetragon HD 5-Person Tent is a good fit for small families or a group of friends looking for some quality time in the backcountry. With its affordability, lightweight, and great ventilation, you can already enjoy your time out.

Best 3 room tent

10. Tahoe Gear Ozark 16 Person Large Family Cabin Tent Review

Tahoe Gear Ozark 16 Person Large Family Cabin Tent Review

Floor Area: 15ft x 16ft

Peak Height: 86.61in

Material: Polyethylene for the floor and 1200mm Polyester for the rainfly

Capacity: 16

Considered by many as one of the biggest camping tents on the market, the Tahoe Gear Ozark 3 Room 16 Person Cabin Tent has all the space and height you need to have fun and enjoy. With two large doors, nine windows, an e-cable port, and its affordable price, you can never go wrong with this camping tent.

What we like about the Tahoe Gear Ozark 3 Room tent is that it has sewn-in dividers to help you maximize your space. It also has a floor area of 15ft x 16ft and is a whopping 86.61-inch in peak height. Confused about what it looks like? We’ll break it down for you.

Since it’s a 3-room tent, it has a sewn-in wall with a massive double-size inner door at the center, allowing you to either divide the entire space or not. In the back area, you’ll find a removable divider. Here, you can also divide the space if you’d like to.

Worried about ventilation? Don’t be. You’ll find two windows in the back area of the tent, while the front room has two doors on each side and three large windows for you to observe the scenery and feel the breeze. Plus, you’ll find two other windows on the doors. All of the windows are made with mesh.

Even though it’s advertised as a 3-season tent, we hardly doubt that it can handle strong rain and winds. Considering that the fly doesn’t cover the entire tent but only the top area, you’ll experience minimal leakage when it rains on the mesh windows and doors. Also, because it’s so tall and wide, the tent may falter if you encounter strong winds. Plus, the floor material is only made with polyethylene, which can hardly handle large floods. Therefore, we recommend this as a summer tent when the sun is high and the breeze is cool.

The Tahoe Gear Ozark 3 Room tent is massive. With a total weight of 47.3 lbs., you’d be surprised by how easy and fast this can be put up. It was designed as a freestanding tent and all the poles are shock-corded. Everything is pre-attached and all you have to do is expand the tent and attach it.

What we didn’t like about the Tahoe Gear Ozark 3 Room tent is that most of its poles are made of fiberglass, which is not the best material for a pole. Also, the fly could have been wider to cover the entire tent and not allow leakage.

11. Slumberjack Overland 10-Person Family Tent

Slumberjack Overland 10-Person Family Tent

Floor Area: 169square feet

Peak Height: 75in

Material: 66D Polyester with 1200mm Waterproofing rating for the tent and 66D Polyester with 1500mm for the floor

Capacity: 10

The Slumberjack Overland 10-Person Family Tent has sturdy aluminum poles, provides great protection, and is a good size for any camping field. If you’re looking for a single-layer construction and a 3-room tent, then this could be the best choice for you.

What we like about the Overland 10-person tent is that it’s carefully and well thought. It has a single-entry door in the middle, where you’ll see a small area in which two people can sleep. On each side, you’ll also see two sewn-in walls with inner doors made with mesh with zippers. You can easily fit two queen-sized beds.

Plus, there are five windows in total and all of them are double-layered with mesh and zippers. You’ll also find two vents on each of the sewn-in rooms—one on the top, and the other one at the bottom. The downside is that you have to close these windows when it’s raining. Other than that, the only ventilation you’ll have is the one on the entry door, on which you can unzip the upper part since it has a brim on top.

The overall weight is 26 lbs. and 8 ounces, which is ideal considering that there might be 10 of you who’ll divide all the materials to carry. Since it’s a non-freestanding tent, you have to stake it down, extend the tent, insert the poles, and fix all the guylines. Overall, if you have a helping hand, it’s fairly easy to set up and pack back down.

Durability-wise, since you’re the one who staked down the tent, we believe that the Overland 10-person tent can withstand strong winds and rain. Although, we doubt it’s ideal for the winter season since it doesn’t have enough ventilation and it may lower down.

The only thing that we didn’t like about the Slumberjack Overland 10-Person Family Tent is that it only has one entry/exit door, which can be a hassle for the people sleeping in the middle of the tent. Other than that, we fell in love with the idea of having a single-layer tent where we can all see each other when the doors are open.

Best pop-up tent

12. Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Floor Area: 10ft x 9ft

Peak Height: 6ft

Material: Rugged, Polyguard 2X Double-Thick Fabric

Capacity: 6

If you’re looking for a great pop-up tent that has great ventilation, durable materials, and is manufactured by a well-known brand, then the Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin Tent could be the best choice for you. Although, we don’t recommend fitting six people inside, but rather four.

What we like about the Coleman instant cabin tent is that it provides great ventilation in every season. You’ll notice that there’s only one door to get in or out of the tent, as well as four windows, including the ones on the zippered door, and pop-out vents on the ceiling to give you air circulation.

We noticed that there are no vestibules so you either need to leave your dirty shoes and gears outside the tent or bring them to the corner of your tent. It’s worth mentioning though that, although Coleman markets this tent to fit six people and two queen-sized air mattresses, you wouldn’t have any left inch of floor available if you fit this many people. That’s the reason why we only recommend four people to stay inside the tent, so you would have space for your backpacks as well.

Also, you’ll find two pockets on the corners of the tent, which is pretty much all the storage available inside. The walls of this instant cabin are durable enough to handle light rain, but it’s important to know that the rainfly is unproportionate to the size of the tent so you’d definitely feel the water gushing when you’re near the wall.

The Instant Setup claim of Coleman lives up to expectations. Indeed, you can easily put it up in 60 seconds or less. Just make sure that you follow the instructions provided. The poles are already pre-attached and all you have to do is extend the tent.

We believe that this 6-person tent can offer you a few good camping years. The walls are thicker compared to other models and brands, and the floor is made with tarpaulin, which is known for its durability. Nevertheless, you should still be very careful when pulling up and folding down the tent to ensure that it doesn’t tear apart.

The only thing that we didn’t like about the Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin Tent is the small rainfly. Other than that, we consider this one of the best pop-up tents on the market today. With its ability to stand in less than 60 seconds and withstand some strong winds, you’ll definitely enjoy your stay in the wild with this tent.

One of the fastest pop-up tents on the market today is the Abco Tech Portable Cabana Beach Tent. If you’re on a tight budget but need an easy-to-carry and set-up, reliable camping tent, then this could be the best product for you.

What we like about the Abco Tech Portable Cabana is that it’s so simple you don’t have to worry about anything else. Comfort-wise, it has two large mesh doors on either side of the tent, as well as small mesh windows on the opposite sides to ensure great ventilation.

All the windows and doors have nylon flaps that can be folded if you want to cover everything up. Plus, the entire tent is waterproof, but we recommend that you seal the seams with your personal waterproofing seal to be fully protected. Additionally, the tent has UV protection, so whether you want to sleep during the day or enjoy some time inside, you’ll be protected from the sun’s heat.

This is one of the fastest pop-up tents we’ve ever encountered. All you have to do is get it out of the carry bag and it will set-up instantly. Plus, you can fold it back just as easily, so packing it back up is not a problem at all.

The Abco Tech Portable Cabana has a nylon fabric so we are confident that it’s durable to withstand a few good years of use.

The only downside to this tent is that it’s not ideal during the rainy season or when there are strong winds because it doesn’t hold the ground too well.

If you’re a first time camper, we recommend that you familiarize yourself  with how your tent works before your actual trip. Set up your tent at home for a test run to see if it will work for you or not.  This way, you’ll be able to set up your tent and campsite more efficiently or you’ll be able to change your tent if it doesn’t suit your needs.

How to Choose a Camping Tent: Buying Advice

Choosing a camping tent is not as easy as choosing a pair of hiking shoes. There are numerous factors that you need to consider and you have to think of the people going along with you. Are you parking close to where you will set up your tent, our will you be carrying it with you. Whether you’re going to travel with your family, friends, or a partner, a tent can make or break your trip.

To choose the tent that will best fit your needs, here are some of the factors that you need to consider.

Space

Before deciding on how big your tent should be, you must know how many people will sleep in it. By doing so, you will have an idea of how spacious your tent has to be. You also need to think about where you will put your camping gears, backpacks, and if you will need any dividers.

Height

The next thing that you need to consider is the peak height of the tent. You should ask yourself and the people going with you whether it’s alright if you bend down a little to minimize the height of the tent, or is it more important to feel comfortable walking around inside of it.

Weight

Another one of the most important things to consider is the weight of the tent. Will you go to your destination in a car, or will you hike your way to it? If you bring a car, then it would be alright to choose a heavier tent. But if you’re going to hike, it’s best to choose a lightweight tent where you can divide all the materials with your co-hikers.

Seasons

Some camping tents are advertised as 3-season tents, but can’t down some moderate rain. Thus, before going on a trip, you should know the weather you’re about to encounter and if your tent can handle it. Indeed, some tents may block the breeze, while in some others are susceptible to leakage. This is where our reviews come in handy.

Materials

The last thing you need to consider when choosing a camping tent is the materials used by the manufacturer. Knowing what type of fabric and how durable the poles are is crucial to enjoy your trip. Nobody would want to set up a tent that has broken poles or tears in the tent.
