Best all-around camping blanket

1. Nemo Puffin Insulated Blanket

Nemo Puffin Insulated Blanket

Measured Blanket Size: 57” x 85”

Weight: 3lbs. 10oz

Exterior Material: 40D Nylon Ripstop with DWR

Insulation Material: 40D Nylon Micro-Ripstop with DWR

Machine Washable: Yes – front-load only

Pocket: Yes – 1 zippered near feet

We chose the Nemo Puffin as the best all-around camping blanket because of its size, weight, warmth, and features. If you’re looking for a blanket that’s big enough to make you feel cozy while not being too big to make you feel suffocated, then this could be the best item for you.

What we like

Once you will take the Nemo Puffin out of its stuff sack, you’ll immediately notice how soft the nylon is to the skin. If you don’t like those slippery texture feelings, then you’ll love the Puffin because it feels full and plush, and it is thick enough to handle wind, rain, or even snow.

Being 57” x 85”, this blanket’s size is ideal. Whether tall, petit, and no matter their sizes, many people have mentioned that it’s the ideal size to feel cozy, like if you were in a cuddle or a little nest, without making you feel smothered.

At the bottom part of the Puffin, you’ll find three buttons that give you access to the small foot box. Besides, it has outward curved edges, which help you stay inside the blanket even if you toss and turn around. Additionally, it helps keep your body temperature down to ensure that you won’t feel cold.

Thanks to the 40D nylon micro-ripstop, there are air pockets inside the blanket, allowing some air to keep you fresh and prevent you from sweating. Also, the underside feels soft and users confirmed that it kept them warm even in rainy, windy, and snowy weather.

Aside from the buttoned foot box, you’ll also find a small zippered pocket where you can store your keys, a small flashlight, or lip balm. When it comes to cleaning this blanket, you’ll also be happy to know that it’s weather-resistant, meaning that whether you spill on it or drag it around your campsite, you can easily toss it up a couple of times and it will be clean again. Although, it’s only compatible with front-load washing machines.

Lastly, rest assured that the Nemo Puffin will always have your back because it comes with a full lifetime warranty.

What we didn’t like

The only downside that many users have mentioned is the huge packed size of the Nemo Puffin insulated blanket. Weighing 3 lbs. and 10 ounces, it’s not ideal to bring on short backpacking trips. Also, even when packed, this blanket is huge, so you will need to allocate a large space for it.

Best wool camping blanket

2. Pendleton Yakima Camp Blanket

Pendleton Yakima Camp Blanket

Measured Blanket Size: 90” x 90”

Weight: 6 lbs.

Exterior Material: 86% wool, 14% cotton

Insulation Material: 86% wool, 14% cotton

Machine Washable: No – dry clean only

Pocket: No

With the constant innovation in technology, only a handful of companies still manufacture wool blankets. Pendleton has been in this business for over a century and is proud that its wool blankets can compete with their counterparts. The Yakima Camp Blanket is considered the best wool blanket because of its softness and resistance.

What we like

Wool blankets are wrongfully reputed for being uncomfortable because they become itchy over time. However, the Pendleton Yakima has been carefully crafted with 84% wool and 14% cotton blend. This blend and the treatment afterward increase the softness of the material and minimize itching.

Although this certain blend doesn’t come off like other insulated, nylon, or polyester, this wool blanket is relatively comfortable on the skin. Because of the weaving wool overlapping the cotton, there are small pockets in this blanket that can trap heat, allowing you to warm up quickly.

Also, because of the blended materials, it will continue to make you warm even if it’s wet. Although, we don’t suggest that you let it soak since it will eventually all get wet. Additionally, many users have mentioned that the Pendleton Yakima is easy to clean. It effortlessly shakes off debris, dirt, and even pet hairs.

Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that this wool blanket is easy to store. Since it’s lightweight and can be folded into a small roll, you can save a lot of space when you’re planning to travel with it. There are no other features with this blanket, but we would like to highlight that it’s not machine-washable and shouldn’t be washed by hands either. The best way to proceed is dry cleaning.

What we didn’t like

The Pendleton Yakima, just like any other wool blanket, can pick up wind quickly. This means you’ll immediately feel the wind, but it can still keep you warm. Also, you should be careful if you have dogs camping with you since wool is likely to get ruined by dogs’ claws. Lastly, we would like to point out that this wool blanket is a bit pricey, even compared to other blankets made from different materials.

Measured Blanket Size: 8-” x 54”

Exterior Material: 20D Ripstop Nylon Shell, 650-Fill Duck Feathers with DWR

Insulation Material: 20D Ripstop Nylon Shell, Double-Stuffed Synthetic Insulation with DWR

One of the most efficient, lightweight, affordable, and versatile down camping blankets is the Get Out Gear Down Puffy one. If you’re looking for a blanket that can keep you warm even in cold weather, then this could be the best option for you.

What we like

The Get Out Gear Down Puffy camping blanket only weighs 17 ounces, and includes a 5” x 12” stuff sack, which means that you can bring it almost anywhere. If you’re wondering how such a big blanket can fit into this small bag, it’s because down blankets can easily be compressed and decompressed. If you’re going to take it with you after storing it for a long time, make sure to allocate some time for the down feathers to regain their full size.

When it comes to warmth, the Down Puffy works extremely well to protect you from the wind and cold weather. Thanks to its double-stuffed duck feathers, you’ll immediately feel the warmth and insulation of this blanket. Although, if you’re going to camp out during the snowy season, we suggest that you bring additional insulation gears.

The other shell is made from a 20D ripstop, which makes this blanket essentially dirt-resistant and water-resistant. Some users mentioned that when they spilled their drinks on it, the liquid just fell off the material. Also, dirt, sand, or even pet hairs will easily come off after you shake it a couple of times.

What makes the Down Puffy a cut above the rest are its three snap buttons. With these, if you’re looking to stay warm while doing other manual tasks, you can simply button up and it will act like a poncho.

Last but not least, this blanket is machine washable, but only in front-load or top-load machines. Thanks to its durable materials, some users were able to add buttons all around this blanket, allowing them to create a DIY foot box, or to attach another blanket to make a somewhat sleeping pad or a blanket large enough for two to three people.

What we didn’t like

The only downside that we’ve found from online reviews is that it doesn’t keep you very warm during the cold season. Also, if it’ll be your first time taking the Get Out Gear Down Puffy camping blanket out of its stuff sack, we recommend that you hang it out at least a couple of days for the down feathers to regain their “puffiness.”

When expanded, this fleece blanket can cover three people, which means that you can share it with your friends or you can completely cover yourself for better warmth. Additionally, the waterproof coating works great. As many online reviewers mentioned, they have used the blanket to cover themselves when they got stuck in the rain.

Besides, we also love the fact that this fleece blanket is easy to clean. Indeed, once you’re done with it, you can just toss it into your washing machine and you’re all good to go. You’ll find no other features on this blanket as its main purpose is to keep you warm even during those cold nights in the wilderness.

We didn’t find any downside to the Oceas Outdoor Waterproof fleece blanket. With its price, you can be sure that it will keep you warm, cover you when it’s raining, or even act as a great picnic blanket.

Weight: 1 lb. 9oz

Exterior Material: Ripstop Nylon, 100% Recycled Materials with DWR

With all the waterproof blankets on the market today, it can be challenging to look for the “best” one because of all the similarities between the products. Fortunately, there’s the Coalatree Kachula Waterproof camping blanket. Both sides of this blanket are water-resistant. Plus, it has a secret pocket and a detachable hood, and is equipped with multiple buttons.

What we like

The Coalatree Kachula has many surprises to offer. First,  the whole blanket is water-resistant, which means that even if you spill your drink on it or use it during a flash of rain, you’ll be able to stay dry and warm inside.

What sets this blanket apart from its competitors is that it has a secret pocket on the side where you can put the detachable hoodie or your keys, wallet, or mobile phone whenever you feel like not carrying them. The hood is easy enough to attach when you need it. Simply attach all the button snaps and you’re all good to go.

Aside from this, you can put the entire blanket inside the pocket to create a make-shift travel pillow. Also, since it doesn’t come with a carrying bag, you can bring this “pillow” with you thanks to its compact size.

Lastly, you’ll also find a couple of buttons on the side of the blanket. This allows you to make a poncho, or if you have another Kachula blanket, you can attach both of them together to create a bigger blanket. To clean it, you just have to put it in your front-load washing machine and you’re good to go.

We didn’t find any downside to the Coalatree Kachula, which is why we chose it as the best waterproof camping blanket. With its versatility, water-resistance, and portability, you can never go wrong with this blanket.

Best budget-friendly camping blanket

6. Snugpak Jungle Blanket

Snugpak Jungle Blanket

Measured Blanket Size: 88” x 72”

Weight: 32oz

Exterior Material: Micro-Diamond with Paratex Antibacterial, 100% Polyester

Insulation Material: Travelsoft 100% Polyester

Machine Washable: Yes – front load machine only

Pocket: No

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly camping blanket that can still keep you warm on windy nights, then you should check out the Snugpak Jungle Blanket. With its unconventional look, you’ll be surprised by how soft, big, and packable this blanket is.

What we like

Both the exterior and interior materials of the Snugpak Jungle blanket are soft, which is why we think this is a great bargain for its affordable price tag. This blanket is big enough that to cover two people who want to snuggle together.

In terms of insulation, many users have addressed whether this blanket actually provides better warmth. Although it failed to increase the insulation when you’re inside, many users mentioned that it does a great job at keeping the warmth of your body inside the blanket. Also, people have suggested that wearing better clothes can increase the insulation within the blanket.

This blanket is not exactly lightweight, but it is compact and portable. The carrying bag that comes with it is quite small, which makes it challenging to put it back inside. Although, it does help to minimize the items that you’re going to buy or bring because this blanket already has somewhere to be stored.

This budget-friendly camping blanket doesn’t have any other features and is pretty straightforward. So, if you’re a minimalist who just wants to have their own blanket, this could be the best choice for you.

Other than that, we like that this blanket is machine washable (front-load only), which makes it easy to clean after your trip.

What we didn’t like

Snugpak advertises the Jungle blanket to be water-resistant, but many users found it to be the other way around. Indeed, some people accidentally spilled something on it, or got stuck in the rain while using this blanket, and nearly all of them said that it will only take a couple of seconds before you start feeling the liquid inside the blanket.

Also, in some online reviews, users stated that the seams of the stitching were not done properly, which is why the insulation of the blanket can become unattached. Although, the manufacturer offers a one-year warranty for all its products.

Weight: 19oz

Exterior Material: 20D Ripstop Nylon

Insulation Material: 600-Fill RDS Duck Down

Weighing only 19 ounces and being packable in a compact size, the Runpl Down Puffy is a great option if you’re looking to bring a lightweight camping blanket with you. With its straightforward design and full water-resistance, you can never go wrong with this blanket.

What we like

First, it’s worth mentioning that the Rumpl Down Puffy blanket is one of the swishiest and slipperiest blankets we’ve ever reviewed. But because of its material, it’s also one of the most efficient water-resistant blankets in this article.

At first touch, this blanket feels cold on the skin, but it warms up pretty easily. If you’re planning to sleep with this blanket, it’s important to remember that it does slide off easily, as many reviewers have mentioned. If you want to use it hands-free, there’s a single clip that you can attach in front of the blanket to accommodate your needs.

Perhaps the strongest feature of this blanket is that it’s lightweight and packs down small, which allows you to bring it almost anywhere you go. The included stuff sack i helps you compress it to a smaller size. Also, you’ll find loops on all four corners of this blanket that allow you to hang it around your campsite whenever you don’t need it.

Aside from the features mentioned above, the Rumpl Down doesn’t have anything else up its sleeve. Once you’re done using it, you can clean it in your front-load machine.

What we didn’t like

The only downside that many users have mentioned with the Rumpl Down Puffy Blanket is that it’s not particularly good at keeping you warm. Yes, it can block out wind and water, but the inner material itself doesn’t provide nor collect any warmth.

Best camping blanket for couples

8. Puffer Wolf Double Insulated Camping Blanket

Puffer Wolf Double Insulated Camping Blanket

Measured Blanket Size: 80” x 54”

Weight: 1lb. 5oz

Exterior Material: 20D Ripstop Nylon with DWR

Insulation Material: PW700 Puffy Insulation

Machine Washable: Yes

Pocket: Yes

Cuddling with your partner with a blanket has never felt this comfortable. The Puffer Wolf Double Insulated camping blanket is weather-resistant, soft in the touch, comfortable, and lightweight. For almost half the price of premium blankets, you surely won’t regret trying out this blanket.

What we like

The Puffer Wolf is packed with multiple features that allow you to use it for almost any of your camping activities. First and foremost, the 80” x 54” size is big enough for two people to preserve the warmth inside of the blanket. Thanks to its PW700 insulation system and exterior materials, you can be sure that it’ll protect you from all sorts of weather.

If you’re planning to use it alone and as a poncho, this blanket features buttons that you can snap in place. With this design, you can do almost all your cooking and cleaning activities while staying warm. You’ll also find two small pockets on the corner of the blanket, where you can store small items like your keys, candies, or lip balm.

What we didn’t like

The Puffer Wolf Double Insulated Camping Basket is affordable, which means there has got to be something that doesn’t work, right? Indeed, the only downside that we’ve found in online reviews is the lack of “softness comfort” of the blanket. Although, this is quite understandable considering its low price tag.

Best casual comfort camping blanket

9. Kelty Bestie Blanket

Kelty Bestie Blanket

Measured Blanket Size: 42” x 75.5”

Weight: 1lb. 8oz

Exterior Material: 75D Polyester Taffeta Top 190T Polyester Pungee Bottom

Insulation Material: Cloudloft (Synthetic)

Machine Washable: Yes – front load only

Pocket: No

Nothing beats a blanket as soft as your pillow at home, and the Kelty Bestie Blanket has got just the right underbelly to bring this comfort to you. If you’re looking for a comfortable travel companion and don’t mind the warmth and versatility of a blanket, then this could be the right choice for you.

What we like

The strongest point of the Kelty Bestie is the comfort it brings with its underbelly. Many reviewers mentioned that this is their go-to blanket if they are looking for an item that’s as soft as their regular t-shirts. Thanks to the polyester bottom, you won’t get the typical loud and silky material you’ll often found on other blankets.

Also, thanks to the same bottom material, this blanket won’t easily come off your skin when it’s lying right on top of you. We also liked the fact that this blanket can easily be compressed into a small roll. It comes with a stuff sack with just the right size for you to put behind your trunk.

What we didn’t like

Since the main purpose of the Kelty Bestie is to provide comfort, it lacks a couple of features. First of all, you’ll notice that this blanket doesn’t have any DWR on both of its sides. This means that any spillage or rain can be absorbed by the blanket in just a couple of minutes.

Also, you won’t find any pockets or buttons on this blanket, which means you can’t use it as a poncho, unlike the other products in this review. Lastly, since the inner material is only made of Cloudloft, you shouldn’t expect it to have a great insulation system. On the contrary, it doesn’t do a good job at providing warmth at all.

Factors to consider when buying a camping blanket

If you’re planning to buy a camping blanket either for your next trip or as a gift, we suggest you first look at the factors that you need to consider to ensure that you get the best one according to your needs.

  1. Comfort

Of course, nobody wants to use anything that will not make you feel comfortable. When looking for a blanket, make sure that you’re comfortable with the materials that are used. This will not only make it easier for you to use it, but it will also be your snuggle buddy throughout your trip.

  1. Warmth

Some blankets focus on their insulation systems to keep you warm in almost any weather condition. If you’re planning to go camping in the winter, we suggest that you look for a blanket that can keep you warm and protect you from harsh, cold winds. But if you’re planning to go out in the summer, then a lightweight and comfortable blanket can work for you.

  1. Versatility

If you’re not a minimalist but rather someone who loves to have multiple features on their gear, then it’s important that you look at the versatility of the blanket that you’re considering purchasing. For instance, some blankets feature buttons to create a poncho-style blanket, detachable hoodies, buttons that let you attach other blankets together, and pockets.

Also, you should take a look at the blanket’s capabilities to protect you from different weather conditions. Indeed, you might encounter some light or heavy rain when you’re going camping, so it’s equally important that your blanket is water-resistant.

  1. Weight and packed size

Just like any other gear, you should first determine whether you’re going for a backpacking or car-camping trip. Indeed, a lightweight and compact blanket can help you ease the burden of carrying heavy loads when you’re going backpacking. On the other hand, if you’re going out in your car, then you can choose a blanket that’s loaded with features, but can somewhat be heavy.

Final thoughts

Having a camping blanket does not only keep you warm from cold breezes and nights in the middle of the wilderness, but also makes you feel safe and comfortable. When purchasing a blanket, make sure that you have considered the factors that we’ve mentioned earlier to ensure that you get the one that best fits your needs.

Once you’re done analyzing your needs and wants, you can check out the products that we’ve reviewed in this article, so that you can be sure that you’ll get the best camping blanket.
